NCLEX-RN : Where Do I Begin? (Questions to ask yourself before taking the NCLEX-RN exam )

Applying for NCLEX and taking it is the first step a nursing student should do to become a nurse in the United States of America. It is one most difficult but most fulfilling achievement if you passed it. These are some questions mostly asked by aspiring takers:

 1. Am I qualified to take the examination?

There must be an authorization requirement upon applying for NCLEX . This authorization is known as ATT or the. (Authorization to Take the Test) . This is a kind of letter which comes from the Nursing Regulatory Body (NRB) of the the state. The applicant must submit an application letter to the NRB informing them your intention for taking the NCLEX. The NRB will review your application. If they find you qualified they will send you the ATT via email. The ATT will expire in 90 days, meaning you must take the test within that period if not, you will apply again. Remember, passing the NCLEX is the only way to become a registered nurse in the United States of America.

2. Are you ready to take the examination ?

It is an advantage to review before applying for the ATT if you really have the plan to take the examination so you have more time for the review. But it is also fine to review upon approval of the ATT because you already have the assurance that you can take the examination. Since you are the one’s to choose when you will take the test within the period of 90 days then you most probably can estimate your period of review.
In my case, after receiving my eligibility and the ATT,  I gave myself three(3) months to review or prepare myself for the exam. I immediately schedule my exam using the pearsonvue website.
It takes hardwork, patience, determination, perseverance and the strong motivation of the self that you really want to get to the U. S.

5. What different kinds of learning materials or resources should you have?

In this question, you have to know what books, materials, and study tools you're planning to use in studying. In my case, I joined a nursing forum with nurses who are also studying for the Exam. We exchange nursing materials through emails, and it saves me a lot of money. I also made trips to our local library.

Remember that it is important  to have review nursing books , tools or materials which contains an up to date informations about nursing. This is to assure that you are well informed of the latest trend in the nursing world.

But if you plan to take review classes, make sure to know the review center policy just in case you have to miss class in case of emergency and their refund policy as well.

  2. What a great checklist to be prepared for the exam! Exams are expensive so it's best to know what you're getting into and wait until you're ready.
